Google Messages on Android tests a new home screen with search at the bottom
The test puts pinned chat avatars on top, search at the bottom and a Gemini button in the top corner.
Google’s messages app is testing a new look. Search moves to the bottom and important chats show at the top. Only some testers see it now.
Hype check
The noise matches the real change.
Our editorial opinion, based on the sources below. How we score
Your call: hype or real?
Real = it will matter in daily use. Hype = louder than it is. One vote, and it can’t be changed.
Our view and readers’ views are opinions, not statements of fact about a product.
Why it matters
The messaging app you use daily may look different, but the changes are only with beta testers for now.
Watch: the app may look different soon.
The details
- The new design is in the Beta channel of Google Messages for Android.
- Pinned chats appear as large contact photos above other conversations.
- Search moves to a floating button at the bottom next to the new chat button.
- The Gemini button moves to the top corner next to the profile picture.
- The change has not reached every tester, so some see only some of the parts.
