YouTube Music adds an AI label to tracks made with generative AI
The label appears on the Now Playing screen and explains how AI was used. YouTube says it will come to the main YouTube app.
YouTube Music now puts a small AI tag on songs that were made with computer help. You can tap it to learn more. It does not hide those songs.
Hype check
Quieter than it deserves. This one matters more than the coverage suggests.
Our editorial opinion, based on the sources below. How we score
Your call: hype or real?
Real = it will matter in daily use. Hype = louder than it is. One vote, and it can’t be changed.
Our view and readers’ views are opinions, not statements of fact about a product.
Why it matters
Listeners can see when a song was made with AI before they decide what to play.
Worth a look: you can now see which songs used AI.
The details
- YouTube announced the labels on October 14, 2026.
- Partners declare Fully Gen AI, Partly Gen AI or No Gen AI. Pitch correction such as Auto-Tune counts as No Gen AI.
- YouTube also uses its own detection tools to find AI music.
- Tapping the badge opens a sheet that explains how the track was made.
- The reports do not mention a way to hide AI-labeled tracks.
